The aim of this study is to determine the iron content of the most common ready-made varieties in the Syrian market of dry food powders made from grains intended for infant feeding since the sixth month.

the importance of these products is that they are commonly used as a major source of nutrition at this age, when the infant's physiological need for iron is increasing, and must therefore be enriched with specific proportions of iron to meet its needs.

198 specifies iron content in dry powders made from cereals intended for infant feeding at least 10 mg / 100 g of dry powder weight.

the study included samples covering all species of three commercial varieties.

the samples were extracted by dry incineration.

the ash was dissolved and the resulting iron-containing filtrate was treated with 2,2-pyridyl reagent, which it formed a pink complex and was measured using a spectrophotometer.

the amounts of iron in the samples were calculated and compared with the authorized concentrations on the packages.

the statistical study was conducted using excel and SPSS, where SD standard deviation, RSD% and p value were calculated.

the study showed that the content of samples of iron was within the acceptable limits in two commercial items studied, while the samples of the third category of all types showed a clear decrease in their content, which represents a real difference from the authorized concentrations.
