Human nutrition contains many antioxidants like polyphenols.

Fruits are the main source for polyphenols, that’s why it is important to study total polyphenols content and their antioxidant capacity.

The study comprised 50 samples of fruits available in local market; the fruits were apple, apricot, grapes, strawberry and pear.

The total phenolic content was determined by Folin-Ciocalteu method, using Gallic acid as standard, and the antioxidant capacity was measured by the ability to scavenge DPPH free radicals.

Values of total polyphenols varies between 660588-3789.21 mg/100g dry weight, apple and strawberry showed the higher total phenolic content among the studied fruits.

Strawberry showed the strongest radical scavenging capacity 89.5%, which correlated to the high level of phenolic content, while pear and apricot showed relatively the lowest radical scavenging capacity due to its low level of phenolic content.

There was a significant correlation between total phenolic content and antioxidant capacity showed by the studied samples.
