The issue of poverty is one of the most important economic problems that the world has been facing.

Opinions and studies have varied on the causes of poverty and resulted in multitude of policies for eradication of poverty.

The study aims to reveal the link between the problem of poverty and the consumption pattern of the poor, and to present the role that Zakat System can play to change the consumption pattern of the poor.

The study concluded that the problem of poverty is closely related to the behavior of the poor, and that the philosophy of Zakat in eliminating poverty is not limited to satisfying the material needs of the poor only, but includes developing the positive attitude in both the poor and the rich while purifying them from their negative insolence, similarly it motivates the poor to invest and develop funds.

The study highlighted two most prominent paths that can change the pattern of poor consumer behavior by Zakat system, namely: Creating permanent sources of income for the poor, and Supporting education and training for the poor.
