This article deals with the rites of death as a rite ofpassage, as a transitional stage from the world of the living into the world of the dead, characterized by multiple practices and connotations.

We study the rituals of death in social reality and through interaction with death in Algerian society and also research the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on death rites.

The study relied on the descriptive approach and the technique ofdirect observation of the most important rituals, practices, and expressive forms related to the event of death in Algerian society.

We reached a set of results, including the death ritual in our society, which is subject to the three times of the ritual act: separation, margin, and integration, as mentioned by Van Gennep.

These rituals are diminished due to the COVID-19 pandemic and society’s reliance on virtual interaction through social media sites in particular.
