الموجات الحارة و تأثيرها في الإنتاج الزراعي في الإقليم الأوسط للمملكة العربية السعودية : دراسة في المناخ التطبيقي للفترة (2001 - 2019 م)‎

The research aimed to reveal the reality of heatwaves frequency in the central region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the period (2001-2019) and the accompanying weather elements and their impact on the production of agricultural crops.

To achieve this objective, the research followed the regional method represented in defining the study area in the central region of the Kingdom and the applied method illustrated in identifying the effect of heatwaves on agricultural production.

The research was applied to the regions of Riyadh, Qassim and Hail.

The most important findings were that there had been a slight increase in high temperatures during the past ten years.

Qassim ranked first in heatwaves with 902 waves during the study period whereas Riyadh ranked second with 843 waves and Hail ranked last with 748 waves.

The high-intensity heatwaves ranked first in Riyadh and Qassim, followed by medium and low-intensity waves.

In contrast, the low-intensity heatwaves ranked first in Hail, followed by medium-intensity waves, while the high-intensity heatwaves were extremely low as they did not exceed 18 waves during the entire study period.

The findings also showed the possibility of predicting heatwaves in general in the study area using relative humidity and wind speed in Riyadh region, and using the maximum temperature and air pressure in both Qassim and Hail.

The findings also showed a negative effect of heatwaves on the production of vegetables, forage and fruit in Riyadh region.

At the same time, they had an adverse impact on grain production in Qassim and positive effects on fruits in Qassim.

In Hail, the findings did not prove any impact of heatwaves on crops.
