The study entitled The Role of Zakat in Reducing Poverty and Unemployment and Creating Economic Development in Sudan aims at an applied study of the White Nile State (2005-2008 AD).

To find out the problem that lies in the weak role of Zakat in reducing\ poverty and unemployment rates and improving the standard of living in Sudan’s societies in its cities and rural areas.

Addressing the mechanism of distribution and collection clearly guarantees the fairness of collection and distribution in a way that achieves the elimination of negative phenomena in society and ensures a decent life.

The study is also based on the most important goals of knowing the role of Zakat in eliminating poverty and unemployment amongthebeneficiariand knowledge of the role of zakat in economic development and the promotion of production, projects and investment.Knowing the role of zakat in economic conditions in improving the standard of living by providing decent living.The study used descriptive historical method and theoretical analysis based on data.The study also assumed the following hypotheses: There is a statistically significant relationship between the role of Zakat and the alleviation of poverty and unemployment.

There is a statistically significant relationship between zakat money and economic development in society.

There is a statistically significant relationship between zakat and productive projects.The study also found the most important results of the weakness of the role of Zakat in addressing extreme poverty and reducing unemployment rates by providing decent livelihoods by owning productive projects.

There is no tangible role for Zakat in improving the economic conditions that lead to an increase in income and an improvement in the standard of living.

Poor studies of needy families’ cases due to lack of credibility, realism, and accurate data counting, which leads to negative deviations in the distribution process for the actual beneficiaries without courtesy, favoritism, or any other improper methods.

It does not show any role for zakat in achieving economic stability that leads to economic development.The study reached the most important recommendations: It is necessary to take into account the control of distribution channels according to the banks specified by the Holy Book through a mechanism that guarantees the safety of distribution and improving the method of selecting the community-based Zakat distribution committees at the level of neighborhoods, villages and furqan.

The non-interference of the state, political leaders and those with influence in the distribution process and preventing the disbursement of zakat money in other than its specified and designated banks.
