The present study seeks to investigate the cultural frameworks associated with women's reception of literature, being a specific audience.

Under such a prism, the study represents an attempt in the sociology of reception to examine the act of reading for a sample of women with the aim of determining the mechanisms of their reception of a specific literary product, namely Zaat by Sonallah Ibrahim, a novel which allows the presentation of an objective conception of these women's view of the text in terms of their social and cultural framework and the role it plays in the process of their reception of literature.

The study is based on the two theories of sociology of reception and the aesthetics of reception to examine the subject of the study through in-depth interviews with 30 women of different educational levels.

The study reveals women's perceptions of the significance of reading literature and its functions in life, including: expanding women's perceptions, gaining new experiences and knowledge, and helping to adapt to and escape from pressures of life, etc.

The study also shows a discrepancy between cases in relation to the family's encouragement to read literature.

Also, it concludes that according to women, the general cultural atmosphere does not encourage reading literature.

Regarding Zaat, the study shows a multiplicity of readings by the cases under study due to the multiplicity of their cultural backgrounds and ideologies.

Moreover, the study points out that these women's horizon of expectations about the novel has been largely determined by the cultural frameworks governing the act of reception for them
