Food is one of the most important problems faced by societies in general and developing countries in particular, where food is one of the most important necessities of life because the individual's access to food varied and balanced and is a feature of Egyptian societies that have achieved an advanced level of well-being and highlights the importance of studying food consumption expenditure and study changes In the total expenditure of the main food groups in urban and rural Egypt.

These conditions can also be identified by identifying the annual expenditure of the Egyptian family in pounds on total food and drink, and identifying the relative importance of spending Food consumption, food groups, and elasticity of spending.

The problem of research is that there have been changes in the spending and consumption patterns of the food commodity groups in urban and rural Egypt during the study period.

Consumer spending is an important indicator And careful to know how the distribution of income on different food groups, which allow policy makers and decision makers and identify the importance of the food package for the size of spending and study the most important factors (1999-2016).

The study aims to study the changes in spending and consumption patterns on the main expenditure groups of food and drink in the urban and rural areas of Egypt by looking at income, expenditure and consumption for the years (1999 / 2000-2004 / 2005-2008 / 2009- 2012 / 2013-2016/2016) by estimating the functions of consumer spending and the expenditure elasticities of food expenditure groups.

The research depended on descriptive and quantitative analysis method and the use of different statistical analytical criteria to study the variation of consumption expenditure patterns Estimation of spending functions by using statistical models in their various forms and choosing the best ones, as well as estimating the flexibility of spending for the main food groups.

The research was based on data published in the Income, Expenditure and Consumption (Household Budget) during the period 1999 / 2000- 2004 / 2005-2008 / 2009-2012 / 201/2016) issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, the group of oils group of the most important food groups to consider the basic food commodities and the study of the relationship between individual expenditure on the group oils group as a dependent variable and the total consumption expenditure as an independent variable using the method of Simple regression through income, expenditure and consumption research during the period (1999/2000, 2004/05, 2008/2009, 2012/2013, 2015/2016).
