This study seeks to shed light on the novel's employment of on history, which opens the door to questions about the novel's relationship to history, which has been the object of controversy between novelists and critics.

This constitutes the research problem, which has entailed digging into the genealogy of the relationship between the novel and the story, and attempting to find out if there are any differences between the historical novel and the novel which uses history to pass on specific visions and ideas? Does the literary re-writing of history help direct public opinion? Or is the relationship between the novel and history one of mother - breast feeding baby? Or is it a marriage relationship to produce an intricate paper creature that bears the characteristics of both parents? Can the novel be considered a reliable source of historical information? Therefore, this piece of research aims to reveal the deeply rooted relationship between the novel and history and to show the extent to which the novel can be inspired by history to help shape the cultural identities of nations.

How can the narrative material depend on the facts of history that enrich the narrative? In other words, is the novel a source of history? Or is history a source for the novel? And, how valid is the term historical novel? Therefore, through this research paper, we will try to clarify some terms related to the subject, including fiction, history, narrative fiction, historical fiction, historical novel, and other related terms.

To achieve all of this, we have adopted the descriptive - analytical approach that fits with this piece of research.

This study has made some conclusions, including: - The novel has several meanings, which has made it difficult to define it precisely due to its recent emergence and continued development.

- The definitions have varied and multiplied in the characterization of the term 'history' for Western scholars and philosophers, as well as for Arab Muslims.

- As for the relationship that the novel establishes with history, it is a new one that depends mainly on the technical questioning of history.

- The term historical imagination is a new term that enters the field of Arab narrative and modern critical studies by the researcher Abdullah Ibrahim in his new book Historical Imagination: Narration, Empire, and the Colonial Experience.
