This study specifically deals with the narrative aspect of Imru' Al- Qais's poetry , and generally the pre-Islamic poetry as it it considered as the first grand fully – developed literary pattern .

Indeed many critics think that lyricism is the prominent feature which dominate this poetry because it is the utmost necessity by which the pre-Islamic poet can begin his poems .

And if some of those patterns have a great deal of poetry which has the narrative feature and includes many narrative components , so have those patterns accomplished a distinctive structure which employs all story devices ? And is it possible to consider Imru' Al-Qais's poem as a pattern of the narrative poetry in the pre-Isalmic age ? We can say that Imru' Al-Qais has established the foundation stone in using the narrative structure in the arabic poetry in its oldest age .

Indeed he had a clear desire in moving the poetry away from the direct description , and performing the narrative style in it .

The concentration of the narrative structure begins with the introduction of the poem which is known as ruins ( Al atlal ) or the narrative about the sedan ( Al-Dha'an ) journey .

And through that he shows the details related to times and places , he doesn't hesitate to mention them many times in his poetry .

Those times and places can be considered as important elements in the narrative structure in addition to the poet's creative ability of illustration and personification The poet is cocerned about illustrating the feature of the artsitry pictures by structure and words he uses in his poetry , for instance the story of sedan departure when the features of narrative structure appear by mentioning the places like : the residence ( Alrab'a ) and times like : the evening and its late hours , and the characters like : the leaving women and the character of the hero when the poet enters upon as a direct part in the events of his narrative poem .

Then the events gradually contiue until they stop by the final terminal previously specified by him .

The noticeable feature of these narrative patterns of Imru' Al-Qais : 1- The summarization and intensification : We can find the detailed tendency of the event runs over ( in some of its aspects ) a kind of ambiguity because of the summarization of the drawn artistry picure and the ansence of the components of the narrative structure like introlucation in spite of the clarification of the other elementary features of the narrative structure .

Then the poetic picture wholly comes in few verses .

2- The concentration on the desert environment symbols when the prominent picture of the poets narrative scanned verses form the desert life in its desert components , which have effective aspects on the poem , and then the utterances are marked by strength with the simplicity of the artistry picture when it is free from complexity .

3- The absence of interlocation style : It is one of the important components of the narrative structure , but it is a partial absence , when distinctive value appears from it in the poet's narrative scanned verses which have a direct relation with women .

The poet's relation with women forms a ditinctive means in showing the poet's creative ability in leading the artistry interlocation by the characters speech which talk about his many adventures with women in addition to the clarification of the time and place frames by the poet's concerns of accurate details of the events .

The scence of hunting is mostly present and distinctive in the poetry of Imru' Al-Qais when the components of the narrative structure completely appear , when the dialogue is present in most of an event details .

In addition to that , the time and place elements appear by moving through the method of events .

The clear concentration becomes obvious on the drawing of the scene characters when the poet is concerned with the description of the characters with many characteristics so that the picture can be very close to the readers mind as well as the description of the general circumstance which surrounds an event atmosphere .

For this reason , this artistry work is regarded as the most prominent feature of the narrative structure in the Arabic poetry when it becomes far from the pure lyricsim .

And we can say that Imru' Al-Qais has accomplished a primary step by employing the devices of the narrative art in his poems .
