الملخص EN

The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of information technologies used by the researched companies and information technology capabilities on the reengineered processes with the intention of developing a model to upgrade the role of information technology in business process reengineering within Communication and Information Technology Companies in Jordan.

The findings of this study were: 1- The study indicated that (63) percent of the researched companies implemented or started to implement business process reengineering.

Furthermore, (28.3) percent of the researched companies were planning to reengineer some or all of their processes.

But only (8.7) percent of the researched companies have no intention to implement business process reengineering.

2- The use of Intranet was the first element within information technologies used by the researched companies.

3- The companies’ capability of integrating their processes was the first element within information technology capabilities in researched companies.

4- Identifying the customers’ desires through the network communication was the first element within the reengineered processes in researched companies.

5- The reengineered processes (dependent variable) were found to be associated with the following independent variables: (a) Shared databases, groupware and expert systems.

(b) Integrative and geographical capabilities.

6- In the light of the findings of this study, the researcher had developed a modal for the role of information technology in business process reengineering within Communication and Information Technology Companies.

The main recommendations were: 1- Focusing on processes of order flow, product, marketing, human resources and customer service in business process reengineering, due to the importance of these processes in maximizing the value-added to the customers.

2- Investment of information technologies which were available in the Communication and Information Technology Companies to build integrative, geographical capabilities and other information technologies capabilities, in order to enable these companies to reengineer their processes continuously.

3- Forming a vision to build shared databases for companies that were members in Information T echnology Association - Jordan The researcher advised additional research work to be conducted on this field
