In search of accreditation and quality assurance for academic departments of library and information science Mohammed Fathi Abdel-hady (Ph.D) Professor of library and information science, Cairo University Abstract The study deals with accreditation and quality assurance and its importance for library and information science educational programs.

The study offer some examples of accreditation and its standards on international level and some countries as USA and UK,then describe the present situation of accreditation and quality assurance in Saudi Arabia,Kuwait and Egypt.

The study offer some suggestions as :the need of a national institution for accreditation and quality assurance for higher education institutions ;the need of Arabic standards for library and information science programs ; and it is important for Arab library associations to play an effective role in the accreditation process
