This study aimed to investigate the difference between computer based vs.

traditional paper pencil based testing on students’ achievement in Reading at Mutah University.

The study attempted to answer the following two research questions : 1.

Are there any statistical significant differences at (α ≤ 0.05) between computerized tests and paper pencil tests on students’ achievement in reading? 2.

Are there any statistical significant differences at (α ≤ 0.05) between computerized tests and paper pencil tests attributed to gender? 3.

Are there any statistical significant differences at (α ≤ 0.05) between groups and gender attributed to interaction? The sample of the study consisted of 50 male and female students who were registered for the reading course at the English language and literature department at Mutah University.

The sample of the study was assigned into two groups: the control group (10 male and 16 female students) and the experimental group (9male and 15 female students). The researcher developed a computer and paper pencil tests which were enrolled for to answer the research questions a two way a nova analysis were conducted.

The results indicated that there were statistical significant difference between the experimental and control groups in the students' achievement in reading in favor of the experimental group.

But, there were no statistical significant differences between male and female students achievement scores on the post –test attributed to gender.

In the light of the findings of the study, the researcher suggested a group of recommendations among which are the following : 1.

The educational institution may provide computer laboratories that fit the number of students. 2.

Providing free computer courses for teachers and students.

3.

Using of computer as educational tool within the classroom. 4.

Supplying universities with materials for employing computer-based tests. 5.

Conducting traning courses that help teachers enhance their competenices of implemating computer –based tests.
