الملخص الإنجليزي

The study area is located in the Wadi Madoneh catchment is located upstream the confluence of Wadi Madoneh with Wadi Ishshe, approximately nine kilometres south Zarqa city and about fifteen kilometres east of Amman.

The upper Madoneh catchment area is about 37Km2.

The area has been designated for the artificial recharge of groundwater because of the importance of this area as a groundwater supply area for Amman city, and because of the depletion of the aquifers in the last few decades.

In addition the geological formations in Wadi Madoneh (Amman Silicified Limestone, Wadi as Sir Limestone), could be convenient for artificial recharge.

Therefore six retention dams were planned to be constructed within the Madoneh area to enlarge the infiltration area and prolong the infiltration time.

In the summer of 2007, it was decided to actually construct four of the six dams and these were completed by September of that year.

The purpose of this study is to analyse the geo-hydrology of the upper wadi Madoneh area, verify the infiltration capacities, estimate the Dams locations, and predict the influence of the infiltrated recharge water on the aquifer in terms of forecasting the effects on groundwater levels as well on water quality, and determine the volumes of water added.

The research displays that the mean annual rainfall for Madoneh area is 145.8 mm.

The unsaturated zone beneath the dams and down streams has suitable geo-hydrological characteristics for artificial recharge.

The total average volume available for recharge is approximately 28000 m3/event.

This result is an annual recharge potential of 112000 m given an average of four events per year.

Withdrawals at the Muwaqqar well field to supply water to the Sahab industrial area could be supplemented by the artificial recharge.
