The research that is carried out by the graduate students (M.Sc.

and Ph.D.

students) is one of the most important matters that need attention.

Directing graduate students to deal with the development problems and find their solutions is very vital to the work market and helps in achieving fruitful results and in raising the competitive values of their universities.

In addition, this will increase the benefit of investing in the human and financial resources, instead of wasting money, time and effort when tackling problems that are not needed.

It is noticed that many graduate theses are accumulated on the shelves of the central libraries of the universities and never used to give some prolific products.

This is due to one of two reasons: either the thesis is not up to standard, or there is lack of collaboration between the university and the work market.

This paper aims to evaluate the theses submitted to the Faculty of Engineering at King Abdulaziz University in order to know to what extent they meet the requirements of the work market.

The intention is to find out how the graduate studies at the Faculty of Engineering participate in serving the society and in contributing to the desired national development.

At the end of the paper some recommend- ations are given in order to make the graduate studies more useful to the society.
