The kabye region in the North of Togo is particularly for the study of the main role of the density of population and the cultural and religious values in the management and protection of the natural environment.
The kabye have lived this region for a very long time and are said to be the natives, something that is rare in Africa.
The individual is intimately linked to this physical environnement (soil, water, vegetation and fauna) and spiritual environment (spiritual mediators «Agolma» between him and God «Esso» his creator).
Sacrosanct rules established by the Old «Sossa» of the society for good running of the society are strictly respected by everybody for ferar to be punished by the society and the gods.
The intimate relation between man and the nature let the kabye to protect some parts of the forest, sources of water and totemic animals.

Le pays kabye, situe dans le Nord-Togo.
est particulierement propice a I’etude du role joue par les densites de population, les valeurs cuiturelles et religieuses dans 1'elaboration des systemes de mise en valeur et de la protection du milieu nature!.
Les Kabye habitent cette region depuis des temps immemoriaux et se disent etre autochtones ; ce qui est rare en Afrique.
Tindividu est intimement lie a son environnement physique (sol, eau, vegetation et faune) et spirituel (esprits mediateurs «Agolma» entre lui et le Dieu «Esso» son createur).
Les regies sacro-saintes etablies par les Vieux «Sossa» de la societe pour le bon fonctionnement de la cite sont strictement respectees par tous de peur d'etre puni par la societe et Dieu.
La relation intime entre 1’homme et la nature a amene le Kabye a proteger certaines parties des forets.
certaines sources d’eau et certains animaux totemiques.
