Laparoscopic myolysis of fibroid uterus as a treatment of premenopausal bleeding

This study was carried out at El-Hussein University Hospital over a period of one year starting from the first of July 1999.

Eighty women with premenopausal irregular uterine bleeding (30-40 years old) due to fibroid uterus (subserous or interstitial) were included in this study.

The women were divided into 2 groups: Group (I) (study group), included 40 women were subjected to laparoscopic myolysis using Bipolar needle method. Group (II) (control group), included 40 women were given Noreisthesterone Acetate Tablets - twice daily for 6 months.

Post-operative symptomatic free cases were significantly higher (P< 0.05) in group (I) than that of group (II).

Also, the size of myomas by ultrasound was significantly (P< 0.05) reduced after treatment than that before treatment in both groups.
