A general formula for a signal produced by an empty cavity, which limits the application of the microwave method to biological semiconductors, is derived using the equivalent circuit approach.

A hybrid rectangular cavity resonating at 9.6 GHz was used to overcome this unwanted signal.

This improved the detectability of measurement and lowered the bound of the minimum measurable mobility to 0.4 cm2/Vs.

Measurement on biological semiconductors yielded negative results at 9.6 GHz due to the domination of the empty cavity signal.

The analysis presented supports the view that the desired reduction of this signal may be achieved by means of a properly designed rectangular cavity resonating at 30 GHz.

The minimum detectable mobility may then be reduced to as low as 0.225 cm2/Vs making mobility measurement on biological materials possible.
