الملخص العربي
تبحث ھذه الدراسة في العلاقة بين التھذيب و الجنس اللغوي.
و تناقش في الفصل الأول أبرز النظريات التي تناولت استراتيجيات التھذيب و طبيعة العلاقة بين التھذيب و الجنس اللغوي.
و بشكل أكثر تحديدا، ستقوم الدراسة في الفصل الثاني بوضع إحدى روايات الكاتبة جين أوستن المعروفة، كبریاء و تحامل، تحت المجھر و ذلك للتوصل إلى أي مدى وظفت استراتيجيات التھذيب و ما إذا كانت المرأة أكثر من الرجل تھذيبا في استخدام اللغة.
و تنتھي الرسالة باستنتاجات اعتمادا على تحليل عبارات التھذيب في الرواية قيد البحث من خلال حوار شخصيات الرواية.
و يمكن وصف النھج المتبع في ھذه الدراسة بالنھج الوصفي التحليلي على المستويين النظري و العملي على حد سواء.
الملخص الإنجليزي
The present study is an investigation of gender and politeness with particular emphasis on Jane Austen's Pride and prejudice.
It consists of four chapters.
Chapter one is the introduction, which deals with the terms sex and gender, the aims of the study, the study questions, significance of the study, and the methodology adopted.
Chapter two throws light on the main terms of this work, that is, politeness and gender.
It investigates the various theories regarding these two terms, the positive and negative strategies of politeness, as well as the concept of face saving.
Chapter three is the practical part.
It analyses the politeness strategies followed by the main characters in Pride and Prejudice to show how polite and refined they are.
The last chapter gives the most important conclusions in addition to some recommendations and suggestions for further study
