The endofthe20،hcentury has witnessed manyinternational political and economic changes, these changes have lead to the evolvement of the phenomena of globalization arising controversial debates over its effects.

This study focuses on theeffectofglobalizationspecifically on culture and the role of the media facing such effects.

To reach such an understanding the study is divided into three main parts; thefirstparttitled"Culture-historical evolution,definition and characteristics" covers the concept of culture, its historical back-ground, the different definitions of the concept and its main char-acteristics.

"Media and its link with culture" is the title of the second part of the study in which the researcher explains the historical linkage between culture and the media, the cultural role of the media and the negative effects of media an culture.

The last part ofthe study titled "Globalization; its effects and how to confront it" begins with defining the concept of globalization, its positive features and the different strategies used to deal with it.

At the end of the study the researcher was able to reach three conclusions; the first is that globalization remains a controversial and debatableissuethathas not yet been resolved, secondly, culture is linked to the society and the individuals that make up that society, such linkage allows culture to be characterized as being diverse therefore allowing more space for creativity, and less stereotyping and inclusiveness, and lastly the researcher concludes that media should play a fundamental role, not only a recreational role but a cultural role.
