الملخص الإنجليزي

This paper examines earnings management behavior of the Moroccan IPO firms during pre-IPO, IPO, and post-IPO years in the period between 2001 and 2007.

We investigate the pattern of discretionary accruals, measure of earnings management, around the IPO year.

Our results show that the discretionary accruals reach their maximum at the year of an IPO followed by the discretionary accruals in the pre-IPO years.

One of the reasons for this gradual increase in earnings management may be that firms want to build their reputation as a profitable firm before going to public.

Our results show considerably lower earnings management during the post-IPO period.
