UNICEF estimated that more than 300.000 children under the age of ten are currently being exploited in more than 30 armed conflicts around the world.

While the majority of child soldiers are between 15 and 18 years old, some of them do not exceed the age of 7 or 8 years old.

This study highlights the role of the UN in reducing this phenomenon.

We have tried to demonstrate what this organization has done through its various departments to protect children during armed conflicts through peace keeping operations from the General Assembly and through the Security Council, which had an important role through the decisions issued to protect children during armed conflicts.

The decisions were embodied mainly in the UN Commission of Human Rights and the committee on the right of the child to restrict the member states in terms of the international conventions on the rights of the child, as well as the additional protocol thereto, through receipt of reports of states parties, whether initial or periodic reports or additional without forgetting the prominent role of the United Nations Children's Fund in the protection of children affected by armed conflicts particularly with regard to the exploitation of children in war.

The role of the UN is to curb these practices and to release children combatants and their reintegration into their communities
