The US presidential elections represent the political system which strongly separates powers.

However, this separation is often transgressed by some presidents who aspire to concentrate decision-making in the White House and exclude other departments, assisted by the great authorities they are granted by the constitution.

For instance, some constitutional bodies, like the Congress, encourage such a role by ceding some of their rights in favour of presidents, justified by national security or global changes which require a big role by the head of the state to match the status of the US in the World Order.

Another example is the judicial power, as the Higher Federal Court stresses such a role by the president.

After his landmark victory, Obama comes back to make history.

He is the first non-white to become the head of the strongest country in the world, the first non-white to be re-elected as president and the first Democrat to be re-elected since Clinton 1996.

Furthermore, he is the first president since Roosevelt of the 20th century’s 30’s who takes over while the country suffers from a hard financial crisis, the political system is divided and the relation is deteriorated between the Democratic White House and the Republican House of Representative.

The status quo is that the results were historic, going mostly in favour of the Democratic Party.

They have got the presidency, the Lower House, one-third of the Senate and several states’ governors.

It is also noteworthy that they have increased their numbers in both houses, especially women in the Senate.
