This study aimed to employing of Remote Sensing Technology for monitoring and change detection of vegetation cover in the area stretching between the cities of Makkah and Altaif for the period between 19862008-, identify the amount of change in the coverage of plant in the region and the areas determination that had happened to her increase or decrease in vegetation cover.

So was taken four Imageries of the satellite Landsat5 / 7, was applied as Optimized soil-adjusted vegetation index (OSAVI), Unsupervised classification and the method of Stack.

The results showed that the state of the vegetation cover in the region is not good, and the region is generally suffer from poverty in the vegetation cover, where all the values of OSAVI average below zero.

Also found by using the percentage change that the greatest negative changes in vegetation cover between 1986 and 1995, and the greatest positive changes between 2001 and 2008.

It also appears that there is variation in the volume of coverage of plant between year to year, but less coverage of the plant in 2001, while the highest plant cover was in 2008.

It was found that the region acquired from 1986 to 2008 and about 29 km2 territory of the plant.

The study was able to map out a digital, showing temporal changes in vegetation cover during the twenty-two years, can be constantly updated.

The study recommended that at the end of the need to work on activating the role of remote sensing technique in the study of plant species in the region.
