Thenovel (The Bow and the Butterfly) by the Moroccan novelist Muhammad A1- Ash'ari receives a significant importance in modem Arabic narrative scene since it has investigated deeply the in؟uiries of historical recent moment on several levels and has raised many issues taking place in the contemporary life among the most prominent ones is the issue of terrorism and the failure of the left and the extremism ofthe right and the relationship with other and what the human self suffers oftension and fragmentation as a result of this and what it feels of the loss and devastation and alienation, ?ositing such fundamental issues in contemporary human life has led to the dominance of the theme of (ruin) the novel as a whole since the main character of the novel has resembled with devastation (ruin) and become a deserted house of damaged self, belonging and history.

The commonness of the theme of devastation (ruin) has many reasons , including the loss of the main character of the son, mother, and wife, as well as the loss of the father’s sight which has made the loss a disastrous sense deposited in the self and become the empty debris.

The novel which presents itself to the reader, it communicates with other writings that have their resonance and importance in the universal narrative scene, among them is the novel ( the Blindness) by the ?ortuguese writer (Jose Saramago), who has made his novel a requiem for human and his suffering and fading in the middle of material civilization and the prevalence ofinjustice, corruption and tyranny in the world and this is analogous to the plight of the major character in the novel (The bow and the Butterfly) by Muhammad Ash'ari.
