For the last five decades، Ibb city witnessed random planning and sharp water drain.

That was obvious in wells water level deterioration between 40-300 m and several dried.

Rain considers the main water resource supplier.

As the city owns high rain average of 939.2 mm/ year، 56.3% getting lost as evaporation transpiration form and 13.4% as surface runoff.

Rain harvesting through buildings roofs may restore these percentages to the water cycle with small wastage.

That could be achieved by backing water in tanks to fulfill citizen›s needs.

Rainfall data provided by Station of Mrs.

Arwa were treated by a program called «Spss» which provided us with annual، monthly and seasonally rainfall average being received by Ibb›s buildings roofs.

Study adopted satellite image with high precision type «Quick Bird».

The image was treated by a program called «Mapinfo» to obtain the total buildings number (22 thousands)، roofs surface area (3 km 2) and city maps.

Study found that، it›s possible to achieve an actual rainfall harvest using the roofs when the collection efficiency 100%، the rainfall harvesting average reached 2.4 million/m3/year.

This number will cover 34% of resident›s needs.

At the high precipitation months، it›s possible to discharge the excess water from collection tanks to feed the aquifer basin via drilled pipes.

Study reached several conclusions and recommendations
