For several decades, Road Traffic Accid¬ents (RTA's) have been a major of morbidity and morality in the Arabian world, particul¬arly in the under 30 years of age group.

It has been found that the rate of RTA's in the Gulf area is three times that of Europe and the USA.

Road Traffic Accidents have eme¬rged as the second leading cause of death in the UAE preceded only by cardiovascular disease, with a mortality rate of 22 fatalities per 100.000 of population in 2005.

This study discusses the magnitude of the prob¬lem in the UAE and Gulf area.

The study dealt with the scale of the problem and the role of fines and punish¬ment to limit the size of this problem.

In the UAE, over 13000 deaths were the result of car accidents in the last two decades.

In ad-dition t this, the greatest number of deaths is the age group between 15-44 years.

A review of available data is presented in this study with the objective of Reflecting the actual magnitude and impact of RTA's on the health and well being of the UAE community.
