This study highlighted the impact of urban development and expansion on the agricultural traditional sector south of Port Sudan city.

The impact of influx of population, internally displaced people as well as the developmental projects on natural resources and environment were the focus of the study.

The methodology of the study was dependent on survey conducted prior to investigation.

The samples of the study were randomly selected from Hoshiri area and Ingazat squares..

The results obtained were: there were tremendous changes in land use of Hoshiri in the last two decades.

The total cultivable area of Hoshiri was 8677 feddans.

of these an estimated 2754 (32%) of arable land was changed into industrial uses and civil services projects.

The traditional agricultural land had lost a significant number.

of plant species which used to dominate the area.

The livelihood of families in Hoshiri and Ingazat has been drastically affected.

The dependence were changed into support and help from national & NGO’s project.

During the last decade serious environmental hazards linked to petroleum exportation had taken place.

The repercussion of these hazards were not fully exhausted, The urban development master plan needs to be in place.

It is extremely important to look at the land use plans and strategies.

Accordingly any urban expansion or rural development project could be put into action plan.

The role of local communities in land use and development should be considered.
