The current study discovers the characteristics of the Medical Information System “?ubMed” such as the extent of coverage, acquisition standards, subject headings list being used and how to search the system and retrieve the needed information.

Research methods used in this study are case study and experimental approach.

The study tool was a check list for investigating the characteristics of the system.

The study found that there are (25,288,541) bibliographic records, (765,850) articles being indexed in the year 2004, (5,647) periodical titles and (312) articles in Arabic.

The system provides both simple and advanced search tools along with helping tools.

The system doesn’t support exporting bibliographic data in a MARC 21 format.
