Intravesical migration of intrauterine device (IUD) is a rare complication.
We report a case of IUD that migrated into the bladder of a 31-year-old woman who had it for four years, and presented with irritative bladder symptoms following a miscarriage.
The diagnosis was first suspected by an ultrasound and confirmed by cystoscopy.
Treatment consisted by removing the IUD endoscopically.
This case shows the importance of following the medical instructions for the placement of an intrauterine device, and regularly verifying its localization in order to reduce the incidence of uterine perforation and extra-uterine migration
الملخص FRE
La migration intravésicale d’un dispositif intrautérin (DIU) est une complication rare.
Nous rapportons un cas de stérilet qui a migré dans la vessie chez une femme de 31 ans porteuse d’un stérilet depuis 4 ans qui, suite à un avortement spontané, a présenté des symptômes urinaires irritatifs.
Le diagnostic a été alors évoqué par échographie, puis confirmé par la cystoscopie.
Le traitement a consisté en une extraction du stérilet par voie endoscopique.
Ce cas montre l’importance de respecter les règles de la pose du DIU et de surveiller régulièrement sa localisation pour réduire l’incidence des perforations utérines et migrations extra-utérines.
