As a result of today’s fast communication needs, increasing cultural exchanges, and the interconnectedness between disciplines, the idea of developing languages for specific professional or academic purposes has become commonplace.

It was Western scholars who noticed first the increasing communication needs as a result of these social and scientific transformations, and who developed programs, known in English as (ESP - English for Specific Purposes) and in French (FOS - Français sur objectifs spécifiques).

This study argues that the Arabic language is equally in need of developing specialized linguistic capabilities that allows speakers to communicate for specific professional or academic needs.

At the official, academic and professional levels, Arabic is still studied, taught and used mostly as a literary language, its practitioners not paying attention to the scientific and communicative functions of the Arabic language, though the needs of the age demand that this dimension of the language be given priority in order to guarantee the success and the continuous viability of the language and achieve the communicative needs of its speakers.

It is the consciousness of this lack in the Arabic language that motivates this study, and a desire to contribute to the project of studying and teaching Arabic for specific purposes.

This study, sets three goals that constitute the foundation that can support such a project: First, we need to articulate a clear conception of a specialized Arabic language.

Second, the capacity of the Arabic language to accommodate such a conception needs to be investigated and tested.

Lastly, the ground principles of teaching Arabic for specific purposes need to be articulated
