The aim of the study: to evaluate efficiency of treatment by electrosurgery and abrasion by gingival ceramic bur in gingival depigmentation and make clinical comparison between the two methods about: pain , bleeding, and repimentation.

Materials and methods: the study consisted of 36 cases for 18 patients : 10 male and 8 female, who complain from gingival melanin hyperpigmentation, where the gingiva of maxilla is divided to two equal parts where electrosurgery is applied on one side , and abrasion by gingival ceramic bur is applied on the other side at the same patient, without bais in choosing side ,then clinical study is achieved about the index of : pain ( at the next day of working, after one week ), bleeding (during the working, at the next day, after one week ), and repigmentation (at the end of follow-up : after 7 months).

Results: according to this study, there is no statistically significant difference in degree of the pain between group of electrosurgery treatment , and group of abrasion treatment, while there is statistically significant difference between the two groups in degree of the bleeding only during the working (p=0.000), where there was no bleeding in group of electrosurgery, but there was slight bleeding in group of abrasion, and this study did not find any statistically significant difference in the repigmentation between the tow groups as p=0.114.

Conclusion: this comparative clinical study concluded that we can depend on a fast,simple, reliable and effective method in gingival melanin depigmentation :it is abrasion by gingival ceramic bur ,whereas there is no difference in the degree of: pain, repigmentation in comparison with treatment by electrosurgery ,and the bleeding during treatment by bur was slight, while electrosurgery achieved greater efficiency in complete control on bleeding during treatment.
