الملخص الإنجليزي

The Aquatic Plant Ceratophyllum demersum used as bioindicator to study the Bioaccumulation factor of some trace element into food chain in Euphrates river in south of Iraq .This study deals with six trace elements (Cd , Co , Fe, Pb ,Zn ) in the aquatic system :water – sediment – aquatic plant , to investigate bioaccumulation of these elements by using C.

demersum from Euphrates river in south of Iraq seasonally from Autumn 2010 to summer 2011.The trace elements were studded in dissolved and particulate phase of water and in sediment and in soft tissues of C.

demersum .and recorded bioaccumulation factor :( 3046.17 , 4922.52 , 10927.6 , 8735 , 6436.2 , 10865.6 ) respectively .

The statistical analysis didn't show a significant correlation between most element in sediment and total organic carbon in addition to sediment texture .In conclusion the trace elements concentration in particulate phase was higher than their concentrations in the dissolved phase , sediment and aquatic plant , and the present study recorded value of trace element in : particulate phase < sediment < aquatic plant

And there is a clear difference in the order of the elements in terms of bioaccumulation , and this plant is a good indicator for the study of the accumulation of trace elements in the water.
