This study elaborates the most important concepts and requirements for the principle of peaceful coexistence since the dawn of Islam up to now.

The study takes the Iraqi community as a sample, covering diverse groups and minorities along ethnic, religious and sectarian affiliations.

It is a call for getting together and rehabilitating the spirit of peaceful coexistence in Iraq from the start, as we have previously opposed the Western Imperialistic ambitions against the Iraqi people.

Throughout the study, I highlighted the Islamic program and the conducts of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) as the first practical step in building an Islamic state recognized by peaceful coexistence with followers of religions, other than Islam.

This could be an obvious evidence for strengthening the fact that Islam does not deny others at all, and it admits that differences among people in their shapes, colors and beliefs constitute a divine rule and wisdom.

In Surat Hud (Ayat 118), Allah Almighty says, “And if your Lord had willed, He could have made mankind one community; but they will not cease to differ.” The prophet’s companions also followed the same program, and applied it in their behavior and treatment.

They respected the right of others in life.

That method of conduct became the program for the past, now and the future.

Today we need to contemplate in that program more than ever and take lessons from it.

In addition to the number of populations on earth, the spread of their lands, and the increase of world states, today the world lives the most confused conditions and the worst divided throughout history.

Iraq, which was the cradle of civilizations that embraced religious and cultural diversities, currently undergoes a very difficult stage that is not easily understood, particularly if we referred to its glorious history.

However, great things cannot be retained, such as peaceful coexistence based on supreme interest of the country, certifying the principle of following and respecting the law, and sticking to constant concepts, such as national strife, Iraq’s independence, freedom and unity both as a country and a nation, striving against discrimination for the sake of democracy and observing human rights of the Iraqis.

That purpose behind writing this research paper was to highlight those rarities in our glorious Islamic history, and encourage brotherhood and national reconciliation
