الملخص EN

The research aims to identify the level of functional status (feeling, activity and mood) in athletes and non-athletes of the university students, as well as recognize the significance of the differences in each depending on the variables of sex, age, stage of study and practice or lack of exercise and the descriptive approach was used in order to reach results.

The research community comprised students from the School of Physical Education and Fundamental School of Education at the University of Dohuk for the academic year 2013-2014 totaling (2106).

The research sample included 211 male and female students, and research tools have been adopted on the application of functional status measure, which consists of (30) bipolar paragraph, and in front of each paragraph seven alternatives to answer after the researcher translated into Arabic.

SPSS was used to get to the statistical research results using Pearson correlation coefficient results, the equation of Spearman -Braun, t-test for one sample and two independent samples, and analysis of variance.

By reviewing the results and discussions, important conclusions were reached and those were that the functional status in general and by-dimensional level ( feeling, activity and mood) is high, showing the presence of some function differences in functional status due to gender and stage and age, while there was not any differences among practitioners and non-practitioners of the sport.

In light of the findings the researcher recommended the establishment of educational courses and seminars to educate students and encourage the positive side in the student personalities through an emphasis on hope and optimism and maintain the vitality of the body, and also urged the students to emulate competent coaches who were characterized by a positive feeling towards themselves and towards others.
