الملخص EN

The Erzinjan Principality was established in Northern Kurdistan in the 11th century A.D.

The principality was annexed to the Rum Seljuks.

The fact that its rulers had a limited political role in the beginning accounts for the scarcity of historical information about it.

The historical sources had referred to its rulers, including its founder Mangujak Ghazi, briefly.

The present study attempts to shed light on this principality, its relations with the political powers in Asia Minor, its role in the political and military events, and its contribution to civilization.

First, the study describes the geographical location of Erzinjan and its impact on the social structure of the population and their economic activities.

It also describes the castles and fortresses surrounding the city, especially Kemakh castle which is linked to the city.

Then the study deals with the history of Erzinjan emirs and the important events during their rule and their relations with Erzurum principality, the Seljuk sultans, Trebizond principality and its position toward the Kerj and Crusaders.

Finally, the study analyzes the reasons that led to its fall in (1228 A.D./ 625 H.) including the emergence of new political powers, the interference of Sultan ‘Ala-Din Kay-kubadh 1st in its affairs, and the failure of Prince Dawood Shah, the last emir, in finding a strong ally to protect the principality.

The study relied on the historical references that referred to Erzinjan principality including Nisaburi's Seljuknama (d.580 H/1186 A.D.), Michael the Syrian History (d.596 A.H/1299 A.D.), and Ibn Bibi's Al'awamer Al`Alaiyia fi Al'umur Al'alaiyia (d.682 H/1284 A.D.) which dealt with Prince Fakhrudeen Behram Shah's reign and the fall of the Principality in detail.

The study also depended on a number of important sources
