The merger-acquisition phenomenon is associated with the F and A among banks to keep pace with developments related to the widening markets, liberation from constraints, and the shift towards market mechanisms.

Hence, the foreign trade liberation agreement- including the liberalization of services, the growing trend toward giant conglomerates, and globalization to promote the internationalization and the revolution in communications technology-contributed to the spread of universal banking thought and the multiplicity of innovations and methods of financing.

Within this scope, there was a tendency of the F & A operations among financial institutions in general and banking in particular to convert the latter to qualified financial intermediaries.

Therefore, smaller banks need to speed up the comprehensive restructuring operations in order to improve the surrounding environment and the reorganization of the financial sectors.

To shed light on the merits of the banking merger operations, a theoretical background has been presented by highlighting the most important motives and forces that encourage this phenomenon.
