Adrar, which is a desert city in the south of Algeria, has witnessed an Unprecedented urban progress, especially after it had been classified as the capital of Adrar district, in 1974.

Since then, one is at pains to be indifferent with neighborhoods, buildings, administrative facilities and urban tissues, all in a modem true.

As a consequence, all this has contributed a great deal to most of job shifts (office jobs, economic service and commercial ones) towards the new neighborhoods at the detriment of the old historic cities or the locally so called palaces ( Adgha palace, Ouled Ounkal palace, Ouled Ali palace, Ouled Ouchen palace, Oukdim palace, and Barbaa palace).

As a matter of fact, like the other places of the city, Ouled Ounkal palace has a special area organization and local architectural characteristics.

However, it is subject to constant neglection and litter egradation of its building areas and the free ones as well.

It is being devastated.

The present research aims at rehabilitating Ouled Ounkal palace which is an architectural and urban heritage in Adrar.

Moreover the palace represents an important referential architectural and urban design of the hot saharian areas in the south of Algeria.

Our research is based on a descriptive analytical approach to figure out Ouled Ounkal palace architectural and urban characteristics as well as the problems posed.

The research concludes with special recommendations (with case study) and general ones (in regard to the old saharian cities) the fact which would help us to rehabilitating and integrating the old heritage inside the modem urban environment.
