Having an affordable housing is considered to be a strategic goal for achievement.

Natural disaster, acts of destruction and demolition are common reasons behind a psychological distress and economic deprivation of many urban areas.

This paper argues that an appropriate design contributes to an affordable housing and suggests that it has to examine the factors deemed essential to arrive at such design by addressing the functional requirements in addition to analyzing the social behavior of those who have lost their homes and whether they might find the question of alternative and affordable housing acceptable.

The case study chosen for investigations in this paper is the re-housing projects.

It is important at this stage not to conflictate the re-housing projects with those designed for low-income or young couples.

The key findings of this paper are to highlight participation of locals’ population that is of key importance to arriving at appropriate design and to stress that environmental design is an essence of key consideration when designing affordable housing.
