Until now there has been no single procedure for structural evaluation of road and airport pavements in the Gaza Strip.

This research shows for the first time in the Gaza strip how to use the Benkelman Beam, an apparatus which the Islamic University of Gaza has recently obtained for the structural evaluation of pavements according to the technical, economic and environmental conditions that are prevalent in the region.

First, the research clarifies through a theoretical study the basic expressions regarding pavement structural evaluation and the factors influencing the measuring procedure.

Second, it makes it possible to determine guidelines for using the Benkelman according to the local conditions with regard to measurement, loads, temperature and temperature adjustment factor.

Then, field tests are conducted on approximately 200 points on pavements of the Gaza strip road network with cooperation with Municipality of Gaza in order to prove the efficiency of these guidelines.

Finally, the research provides important conclusions and recommendations for those who are concerned with highway and airport engineering and enable them to take immediate decisions regarding necessity of maintenance measurements.
