Fishery Ports are considered, as a result of their contribution to the fishery and tourism sector, a main pillar of the maritime transport and seaports sector, in addition to participating in fulfilling national food security aspects.

Therefore and in order to accomplish these economic missions for this sector, Palestinian fishery ports should be subjected to an extensive development and modernization program.

This paper aims at providing a general framework for rehabilitation and development of Gaza fishery Port (GFP), including specialized utilities and services, which would significantly enhance and serve the Palestinian economy.

GFP is constructed in 1997 with locally available materials.

The main problem of the fishermen port is that no proper foundation on the sea bed was laid as basis for the breakwater resulting in a very unstable construction.

There is no quay or other facilities to accommodate any type of large vessel.

Furthermore, the paper introduces, for the first time in Palestine, an engineering land reclamation model as a tool for tackling the scarcity and shortage of land compared to the size of population in Gaza Strip.

In order to meet the above mentioned overarching aims, this paper starts with a short summary of the steps taken from 1997 onwards and the proposals to develop the present rudimentary facilities with particular emphasis on main breakwater and harbor basin.

Thereafter, this paper outlines the phases for future developments of GFP including, technical studies and basic engineering design for emergency reinforcement for breakwater as quay construction to stabilize and to prevent rubble and sand, used as filling material, to flow into the harbor basin (phase 1), lining the inner perimeter of the GFP with steel sheet piles and then conduct full-scale harbor basin dredging exercise (phase 2) and developing needed utilities (phase 3).

Finally, the paper highlights aspects of land-use, investment opportunities and potential economic gains consequent to outlined developments in GFP.

A schematic layout is made in full details for land-use investment related projects.
