The main reasons for assuming the priority of the story of A iqar to that of Tobit are, briefly, as follows.

Does the placing of the two stories side by justify us in believing that one of them was the model of the other, and that they are almost a pair of companion pictures ? We may answer this question by pointing to the remarkable parallels in structure in the two books and to cases in which obscurities in Tobit are explained by the parallels in A iqar.
