Virtual funds is a new concept that originated and evolved in a cyber context, particularly Mass Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs) that allow individuals from all over the world to interact with one another within the virtual world of the game.

As players interact through the virtual world, they can acquire or create in-game assets or virtual funds that may have the appearance of traditional physical money.

The player who owns such money can transfer it to other players within the virtual context of the game and get the same game currency in exchange.

That transaction is supposed to be subject to the laws of the game and the principle of absolute will.

However the reality is different, as these virtual funds began to be exchanged with real money.

Accordingly, virtual funds have raised many legal questions in jurisprudence.

The first question is whether or not these funds are real money, and if so, do they belong to the player or they are considered to be the property of the game developer? This study aims to provide a legal vision of virtual funds by delineating their meaning and legal nature and by determining their legal provisions, particularly those related to the ownership of virtual funds as well as the appropriate legal rules that apply to them and ensure the protection of dealers’ rights.
