This study aims to Estimate the size of the hidden economy in Libya and measure its impact on the economic growth during the period from 1986 to 2012.

The study assumed that there is a positive relationship between the value of the hidden economy and economic growth in Libya, which is crossed by non-oil GDP.

(OLS) Method has been used through using multiple regression method to test the hypotheses.

The findings of this study proved that there is a positive relationship between the value of the hidden economy and economic growth in Libya.

This study recommends the importance of strategic plan to contain the hidden economy under the control of formal economy by adopting e-government program to minimize and simplify the procedures in order to eliminate from bureaucracy.

The study also recommended that the experiences of countries that succeeded in reducing the size of the hidden economy such as ((OCED-15, the United States, Switzerland, Japan have to be reviewed, As well as the adoption of the concept of governance, strengthen the culture of work ethics in public office, strengthen the role of scientific research, as well as removal of subsidies on goods and fuel to rationalize consumption and decrease the level of smuggling.
