Text editing is considered as an important scholarly effort.

It is also a national effort that seeks to revive the cultural and historical heritage of a nation.

The process of editing manuscripts is a complex process that is fraught with difficulties which sometimes outweighs the original text.

It is therefore a process that requires great responsibility and intellectual thoroughness on the part of the editor.

This paper seeks to examine some of the difficulties usually encountered by text editors in the process of editing Arabic manuscripts with particular reference to the work of Muhammad Ibn Masanih entitled "An- Nafhat Al-Anbariyyah Fi Halli Al faaz Al-Ishriniyyat." The paper further discusses steps to guide the text editor in overcoming those problems and difficulties.
