الملخص الإنجليزي

The study falls into an introduction suggesting the concept of the image and the methods of studying this image, three parts and practical analysis of Al-Shamakh's poetic model.

The intrduction tackles the concept of the image as embraced by old Arab critics who are influenced by the questions of verbal reality and meaning.

As for modern critical studies, they have been influenced by the conclusions of European criticism, a thing which has contributed to some senses of ambiguities, contradictions and repetitions.

The first part comprises of three chapters dealing with the themes of the image in Al-Shamakh's poetry such as those relating to man, animal and plant.

Al-Shamakh has been able to re-employ these themes in building up the artistic image.

The second part relates to the meaning of the image in Ai- Shamakh's poetry in connection with good and evil, life and death, work and hope etc.

The part also tackles the image as related to time and place.

It also illustrates the concept of the symbolic image.

The third part suggests the shaping of the image in Al- Shamakh's poetry The part concentrates on the image and Rhetorics, the single image and its relationship with the poet himself and the image and Rhythm.

The last step in this study is an analysis of a poem as a model clarifying the use of the image in studying Al-Shamakh's poetr as a whole.
