Most of us are aware today of the contributions of nuclear technology to the production of electricity from nuclear power plants.

Many of us, however, are not aware of the fact that the impact of non-power applications of this technology is even greater.

The harnessing of radioisotopes in medicine, pharmacology, agriculture, engineering and industry has made substantial improvements in these fields, and new applications continue to make major contributions to our quality of life.

This article deals with the applications of nuclear technology in the area of medicine and pharmacology.

In particular, it concentrates on the use of nuclear technology in sterilizing medial equipments, testing new drugs, diagnostic techniques and treating certain diseases.
