In Algeria infant mortality can be summarized in three big stages : * That which corresponds to a very high level with many uncertainties related to the living conditions of the Algerian population during the colonial period and to the quality of the data; 1900-1962 * The second is characterized by a downward trend but remains slow and extend from independence to 1980.
* Finally, the third stage is one in which there is a real decrease in infant mortality; This decline is the result of various major development plans and health plans advocated by the authorities.
*Today's infant mortality rate is around 22%, whereas it reached 142% in 1970.
الملخص FRE
En Algérie la mortalité infantile peut se résumé en trois grandes étapes : * Celle qui correspond à un niveau très élevé avec beaucoup d’incertitudes liées aux conditions de vie de la population algérienne pendant la période coloniale et à la qualité des données ; 1900- 1962.
*La seconde est caractérisée par une tendance vers la baisse mais qui reste lente et s’étend de l’indépendance à 1980.
*Enfin la troisième étape est celle ou on observe une réelle baisse de la mortalité infantile; cette baisse qui est le fruit des différents grands plans de développement et plans sanitaires prônés par le pouvoir.
*Le taux de mortalité infantile d’aujourd’hui se situe autour de 22 ‰, alors qu’il a atteint 142 ‰ en 1970.
