Production of Arabic manuscripts was an integral part of the traditional Arabic and Islamic education in Ilorin Emirate of Nigeria which was founded around c.

1823.

The manual copying of manuscripts was one of the major aspects of the professional occupation of Islamic scholars of Ilorin and their students and until recently, it was believed that every house in Ilorin had its own family manuscript repository.

Though houses of many scholars still have in their custody pools of manuscript some of which dated back to the 19th century, their present-day custodians do neglect them to deteriorate.

In addition, technological devices such as printing, photocopying, scanning etc have continued to make the art of manuscript production less relevant not only in Ilorin but in the world over.

Efforts that are being made by groups and individuals to salvage the remaining Arabic manuscripts of the Emirate from total extinction, shall be the major focus of this paper
