The study looks into the future of the ISIS, and provides various scenarios of its survival or decline after sustaining heavy losses in its strongholds in the latest battles.

The study presents an account of ISIS’s control of the Iraqi city of Mosul, and the formation of popular mobilization units (PMU) that changed the formation of the armed forces in Iraq, and their transformation to a semi-state by the inclusion of the main Shiite militias under their umbrella.

Moreover, the study examines the difference in preparation and arming between the popular mobilization units and the Sunni tribal mobilization units that were formed to fight ISIS.
